Allen Zadoff
author and writing Coach
“Allen Zadoff has given me what I've always been looking for--
a thorough, step by step way to approach the seemingly
sprawling art of novel writing. I’m eternally grateful.”
- -- Annalee Wooster, writer/filmmaker
What you can expect
My clients experience huge creative leaps in a very short time. Stuck writers become unstuck. Projects that have been unclear suddenly come into focus. Stories that seem impossible to figure out unfold effortlessly before the writer. Within one session you will know if I am the right coach for you. I guarantee you will leave the session with a new perspective on your work and a fresh perspective of your role as an artist. As we continue to work together, I can guide you in structuring your work and launching it into the world.
The Process
Working one-on-one, I ask questions and suggest exercises that invite your imagination to play, guiding you as you create the story inside of you. My job is not to write it for you or to criticize the story you want to write. Instead I help you connect deeply to your own creative process--and that allows the story emerge. Clients are often surprised at how easy it is to write in this way. What seemed like heavy lifting becomes a joyful, exciting adventure.
I specialize in working with artists of all genres via phone, Skype, or iChat. My clients are located throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Los Angeles-based writers can contact me for more info about in-person meetings.
“Allen Zadoff has helped my screenwriting in ways
that no other class has. It has given me a method of exploring
story structure and character that I plan on using for the rest of
my life. The work we did revealed things about my characters that
became integral to the story--things that I never could have
accessed on my own."

- writer/director of "Eating", which premiered
- at the Sundance Film Festival.
My clients
Showrunners, novelists, TV writers, screenwriters, memoirists. First-time writers, actors who have always wanted to write their own piece, bloggers looking to launch a new blog or better define their voice in an ongoing one, comics who want to create a one-person show. I work with writers who have been writing their entire lives as well as professionals from other fields who have always dreamed of writing but have never picked up a pen.
“Working with Allen has helped me to get to the
deepest places in my book with an ease I greatly
appreciate – and I attribute directly to him. He helps me
to write joyfully without ever feeling like he is influencing
my choices. (A great gift indeed!)”
-- Stephanie Hubbard, award-winning
documentary film editor and author
