If ChatGPT has encountered the story in its training (subject to its cutoff date, currently mid-2023.), it can intuit the formula behind it. As with all things GenAI, these formulas should be considered insightful and quite possibly wrong. The AI doesn’t know what actually makes a story work, and neither do we. If story could be reduced to a simple formula, every writer you know would be living on a private island collecting residuals from their hit tv series and bestselling books.

Inspiration: Some writers work from the inside out and some from the outside in. Or you realize that everything old is new again, and you’re in essence writing a modern day Godfather, and it might be helpful to break down what works in Godfather.
Formulaic is not a replacement for watching, reading, or experiencing the original (aka giving money to the creators), but once you’ve done that, Formulaic can be a timesaver and a source of story inspiration.
