Storytelling + Artificial Intelligence
Narrative Intelligence: The Human Core of AI Development
I’m an award-winning novelist working at the frontier of large language models. With over a decade crafting narratives that move and entertain readers, I bring a storyteller’s perspective to artificial intelligence, I now apply that same understanding of human emotion and connection to shape how machines communicate.
Currently: AI Tutor at xAI training Grok | AI Guest Artist in Residence at CSUN | Award-Winning Author
Current Work
AI Model Training at xAI
At xAI, I train and refine large language models by evaluating AI-generated text, optimizing prompts, evaluating data, and enhancing content quality. I focus on developing AI that communicates with narrative coherence, personality, and emotional intelligence.
My work includes:
Evaluating AI outputs for narrative quality and human connection
Enhancing machine-human interaction through advanced prompt design
Collaborating with AI technical teams to strengthen linguistic analysis capabilities
Developing frameworks for AI with narrative depth
AI Guest Artist in Residence, Department of Theatre at California State University, Northridge
As the first AI Guest Artist in Residence at CSUN's Theatre Department, I'm pioneering the integration of generative AI into dramaturgy and live performance. I've developed creative AI frameworks for an experimental adaptation of "Dracula," demonstrating how non-technical artists can meaningfully engage with language models.
This work explores:
The intersection of AI-generated and human-crafted dramatic content
Methodologies for AI-human creative collaboration in traditional art forms
Frameworks for teaching AI concepts to performing artists
AI Tooling for dramaturgy, scene creation and staging, dramatic writing, and design
Expertise
Narrative AI Development
I apply storytelling principles to AI development, focusing on what makes communication feel natural, funny, and emotionally resonant.
*Applied at: xAI model training, CSUN theatre production, West Coast Mind Hub*
Cross-Domain Translation
As someone who speaks both the language of creative writing and AI development, I help technical and creative teams understand each other's needs and capabilities.
*Applied at: xAI cross-functional collaboration, authoring "The AI Revolution for Writers", consulting at West Coast Mind Hub*
AI Content Evaluation
I evaluate AI-generated content for narrative strength, emotional impact, and human connection, developing frameworks that go beyond technical metrics.
*Applied at: xAI quality assurance for model outputs*
AI Integration for Creative Fields
I develop methodologies for integrating AI into traditionally human creative domains while preserving artistic integrity and enhancing human capability.
*Applied at: CSUN theatre production, West Coast Mind Hub*
Projects & Case Studies
Dracula AI: Theatre Meets Machine Intelligence
California State University, Northridge | 2025
Working with faculty and students, I developed a framework for incorporating generative AI into a theatrical adaptation of Bram Stoker's "Dracula." This experimental production used AI to:
Generate alternative interpretations of classic scenes
Create character perspective shifts not present in the original text
Develop a contemporary chorus that comments on the main action
The project required inventing accessible methods for non-technical theatre artists to interact meaningfully with AI systems, resulting in a production that maintained artistic integrity while exploring new creative territory.
AI Personality Development
I contribute to developing coherent, consistent AI personalities with narrative depth. This work includes:
Evaluating conversation flows for emotional intelligence and narrative continuity
Refining model responses to maintain consistent character voice across interactions
Developing testing frameworks to measure user perception of AI personality attributes
This project applies storytelling principles to the challenge of creating AI that feels like a consistent presence rather than a disconnected set of responses.

The AI Revolution for Writers
Book Project | 2022-23
I researched and authored one of the earliest books on the generative AI phenomenon, a comprehensive guide helping professional writers, creators, and entertainment executives understand and leverage AI in their creative practice.
The book was a groundbreaking “first take” on creative AI integration, published in March 2022 as the first wave of generative AI hit. The book provided a humanist perspective on AI's impact on creative fields, helping writers navigate this technological shift without fear or hype. Drawing on my experience as both a novelist and AI professional, I offered a balanced view of how creative professionals could maintain their voice while leveraging new tools.
The book explored:
Practical applications of AI for narrative development
Ethical considerations for creative professionals
Step-by-step guides for effective prompt design
Future scenarios for AI-human creative collaboration
This project required translating complex technical concepts into practical frameworks accessible to non-technical creative professionals.

My AI Philosophy
A Humanist in the Machine Age
I entered the tech world very late—not with a background in STEM, but with a belief that the future of AI requires storytellers and narrative experts as much as engineers. I operate from a humanist lens, with deep experience in how people think, feel, and communicate. From this perspective, I can recognize patterns in AI narrative language, personality, and emotion that feel “unnatural” and alienate users from engaging meaningfully with the model.
I am not a coder. I am not trying to become one.
My goal is to ensure AI systems are:
Emotionally intelligent
Context-aware
Narratively coherent
Creatively expressive
I believe AI systems will become not just tools but narrative partners, and that the people who understand story will shape their future as much as those who build the underlying technology.
Connect
I'm always interested in meaningful conversations about the intersection of storytelling and artificial intelligence. If you'd like to discuss potential collaborations or share ideas, please reach out.
